Dr. Douglas Gill, our guest on Voices of the Chesapeake Bay this week, is professor emeritus of Biology at the University of Maryland where he's been involved in the Biology Program for 50 years. Dr. Gill is a specialist in evolutionary ecology, field biology, and conservation biology. He is a trained as an ornithologist (the study of birds). For over a decade he also studied the life cycles of amphibians (frogs & salamanders), and conducted a study of Pink Lady’s Slipper orchids, over 3,000 of which reside on Chino Farms. The experimentation at Chino Farms is an effort to bring back the bobwhite quail by returning a portion of the farms to a grassland prairie environment. This interview was conducted in 2008 at the Chester River & Field Lab - a program of Washington College’s Center for Environmental Science in Chestertown.

The interview series Voices of the Chesapeake Bay is presented between 7-10am each Sunday morning on 103.1 WRNR-FM (streaming live at www.wrnr.com), and posted for anytime listening at www.voicesofthechesapeakebay.net.
