voc ep 63: Renee Collins Georges

Renee Collins Georges is a singer of jazz and popular musical styles, with a claim to fame for her decade as one of the legendary Raelettes, the women singers who backed the great Ray Charles. With gospel roots on her mother’s side, Georges grew up in Los Angeles and worked her way into the lifestyle of a touring musician, a familiar story brought forth in the acclaimed movie, 20 Feet from Stardom. While her aspirations were less the desire to earn a solo career of her own, Georges found joy while seeing the world, and many a lesson to be learned throughout her service to the rapper M.C. Hammer, and “the genius” of Ray Charles.
